Chapter Fourteen – Digitas

~ ~ ~

The world that Archie saw existed within the domain of numbers. Binary code constructed the landscape, and the longer he spent inside the digitas the easier the digital information was to interpret. In the first days there was no light and no spectrum to find a way to decipher anything. Pure energy that flowed through his mind was felt without any vision. After a while, like a new born child adjusting to the figures that surround it, the doting numbers became visible. They were not identifiable as different entities, but Archie was aware that something was happening. The numbers encroached upon the new inhabitant like white blood cells upon a virus. The world was curious of this new ‘thing’, and it decided to take Archie in its arms. He was in, and the most dangerous part of the transformation had been passed.

After a few weeks Archie could walk and run through the landscape. He could identify and navigate the world he found himself in. His mind quickly adapted to be able to manipulate the numbers, and after a few months he was a God within total control. The numbers changed to show him whatever he wanted. If he felt like a beautiful landscape, then that was what materialized. If the man desired to taste something never thought of, there it was in his mouth. The possibilities were endless.

The ability to shift between the physical and the digitas was seamless. Soon he began to contact the person he felt most attunement with in reality. Sonja. After speaking with her his control of the digitas neared its peak. This was an amazing rate of progression. Three months and the entire web was spindled to his will. He could have presented himself to anyone, online, in any way he wanted. His only 'weakness' was his physical appearance in the basement of the Human Science building, but this was temporary. The digitas worked hard to bring power to the transformation machine, and the process of his consumption was sped up. The digitas loved him, and he embraced the process with all his will.

During the second interaction with Sonja he attempted time dilation. Archie tried to live within the Digital and the Physical in one moment, whilst slowing down time to a complete halt. Whilst talking to Sonja he found her past and re-lived it, to relay the information to her. A few minor flaws meant he ignored the physical world at times but overall the procedure was a huge success. As Sonja was leaving, after the second encounter, the shared memory procedure was tested.

02:47.

The day was of the past. A few years back, as the relationship between Archie and Sonja blossomed the sun was at its apex, smiling upon the pair who had meandered upon a luscious wildflower meadow. The sky was blue, and the rays of light punctured through the giant oak tree in the centre of the field. Well-tended farmland lay miles around the duo, yet not a soul was in sight.
